- £60 is the minimum charge and covers up to the first 2 hours. After that it's £30 an hour, and only with your agreement.
- If a job turns out bigger than described, I'll tell you how much longer it'll take and what it'll cost. You choose: carry on, stop, or rebook. If you'd rather not carry on, the £60 minimum charge is due.
- Your card is saved securely with Stripe when you book. Nothing is charged until the job's done and we've agreed the total.
- Plans changed? Get in touch and we'll happily move your job to another day rather than cancel it. Moving or cancelling is free with 48 hours' notice. Later than that, or if I can't get in on the day, the £60 minimum charge applies.
- You can book up to 6 months ahead.
- Booked within the last 14 days? The law also lets you change your mind for free before work starts (section 9).

1. Who we are
Book a Job is the trading name of G. Widdowson, a sole trader working across Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire and Somerset. In these terms "we", "us" and "our" mean Book a Job, and "you" means the person making the booking.
Phone or WhatsApp: 07886 842831 · Email: info@bookajob.uk · Website: bookajob.uk
Based in: Oldfield Park, Bath, BA2.
We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is added to our prices.
2. These terms and your booking
2.1 These terms apply to every job we carry out, whether you book online, by phone or by message. Please read them before you book. When you book online you'll be asked to tick boxes confirming you agree.
2.2 Your booking is a request. A contract between us is formed when we confirm your booking by email, text or WhatsApp. If we can't take the job on, we'll tell you and nothing will be charged.
2.3 You must be 18 or over and either own the property or have the owner's or landlord's permission for the work.
2.4 You can book up to 6 months ahead. The booking diary shows which dates are available.
2.5 We may update these terms from time to time. The version shown when you book is the one that applies to that booking.
3. Describing your job
3.1 Our time estimate is based on what you tell us. Please describe the job as fully as you can: what needs doing, how many items, sizes or areas, and anything unusual. Photos are very welcome.
3.2 If the job on the day is materially different from, or bigger than, what was described, section 5 applies.
3.3 Some jobs are quoted separately after a call or site visit (for example painting and decorating, decking and fencing, and shed and greenhouse builds). Those quotes will set out their own price and any deposit, and these terms apply alongside them.
4. Prices
| Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Minimum charge for any booked job | £60, covering up to the first 2 hours on site |
| Extra time after the first 2 hours | £30 per hour, charged in 30-minute blocks (£15), and only ever with your agreement first |
| Materials, parts, hire and tip fees | At cost, agreed with you before we buy them |
| Late cancellation or no access (section 8) | £60 minimum charge |
4.1 Time is counted from when we arrive and start work until the job is finished and tidied, not including breaks. Short trips to buy agreed materials during the job count as time on the job.
4.2 For bigger jobs we may ask for a deposit before the start date, usually towards the cost of materials. We'll tell you the amount when we quote.
5. Extra time, bigger jobs and stopping
5.1 We'll always ask before going past 2 hours. If we think the job will take longer than the first 2 hours, we'll tell you as soon as we can, give you our best estimate of the extra time and cost, and only carry on if you agree. Agreement can be spoken, but we'll usually confirm it by text or WhatsApp.
5.2 If a job is much bigger than expected, for example a large flat-pack wardrobe or shelving system that will take most of a day, we'll stop and explain. For example: "This will take roughly another half-day, about 4 hours, which would be £120 on top." You can then choose to:
- (a) carry on at £30 per hour, as estimated;
- (b) stop now and pay the £60 minimum charge, plus any extra time you had already agreed to; or
- (c) rebook the rest of the job for another day, paying for today's visit now on the same basis.
5.3 Estimates are our honest best guess, not a fixed price. If it becomes clear an agreed estimate will be exceeded, we'll stop and check with you again before continuing.
5.4 When we may decline to carry on. We may stop work and leave, charging the £60 minimum charge plus any extra time you had already agreed to, if:
- the job is materially different from, or larger than, what was described and you don't agree to the extra time;
- carrying on would be unsafe, would break the law or building regulations, or needs a qualified specialist (for example gas, mains electrical, structural or asbestos work);
- parts, materials or access needed for the job aren't available; or
- we are treated with abuse, threats or harassment.
5.5 If a job is stopped part-way, we'll leave the work area safe and tidy. We're not responsible for completing work you have chosen not to continue with.
6. Introductory offer
6.1 While we're launching, we reserve a 4-hour slot for each booking. If your job runs past 3 hours but is finished within that 4-hour slot, we'll charge no more than £90 in total (excluding materials).
6.2 This offer doesn't apply to work beyond the 4-hour slot, to quoted jobs, or where the job was materially different from what was described. We may end this offer for new bookings at any time; it will still apply to bookings confirmed while it was running.
7. Payment
7.1 Saving your card. When you book, you'll be asked to save a payment card through Stripe, our payment provider. Your card is not charged at that point. Your full card details are held by Stripe and are never seen or stored by us.
7.2 Paying when the job is done. When the work is finished, we'll go through the time spent and any materials and agree the total with you. We'll then either charge your saved card for that agreed amount, or you can pay on the spot by card using a payment link or QR code. Stripe will email you a receipt.
7.3 Your authority to charge your saved card. By saving your card and accepting these terms, you authorise Book a Job to charge it, without you being present, for:
- (a) the total for the work, once the job is finished, made up of the £60 minimum charge and any extra time at £30 per hour that you agreed to;
- (b) the £60 minimum charge if you decide not to have the job completed (section 5); and
- (c) the £60 minimum charge for a late cancellation or no access, where section 8 applies.
We'll always tell you the amount, and why, before we charge your card. We will never charge more than the amount we've told you. You can withdraw this authority by contacting us, but you will still need to pay any amount already owed another way.
If your saved card expires or is replaced before your booking (for example on a booking made months ahead), we'll send you a secure payment link instead.
7.4 Other ways to pay. If you'd rather not save a card, please call or message us on 07886 842831 to arrange your booking and payment another way.
7.5 If a payment fails, for example because your bank asks for extra verification, we'll send you a payment link. Payment is then due within 7 days. We may charge interest on late payments at the rate allowed by law and recover reasonable costs of collecting money owed.
7.6 If you dispute part of an amount, please tell us straight away. We'll only charge the part that isn't in dispute until we've sorted it out together.
8. Moving or cancelling a booking
8.0 Rebook rather than cancel. If your plans change, please talk to us first. We'd much rather move your job to another day than lose it, and we'll always try to find you a new date that works.
8.1 48 hours' notice is free. You can move or cancel a booking free of charge if you tell us at least 48 hours before the start of your booked slot. Please call, text, WhatsApp or email us.
8.2 Less than 48 hours' notice. Because we turn other customers away to hold your slot and usually can't refill it at short notice, if you cancel or move a booking with less than 48 hours' notice we may charge the £60 minimum charge. This is our reasonable estimate of the loss of a booked session.
8.3 No access. If we arrive at the booked time and can't start because nobody is there to let us in, we can't get access to the work area, or the job can't go ahead for a reason within your control, and we've tried to contact you, we may charge the same £60 minimum charge.
8.4 We'll always waive these charges in genuine emergencies, and we may waive them in other cases at our discretion. We will not charge them where section 9 gives you the right to cancel free of charge.
9. Changing your mind (your legal right)
9.1 Our normal rule is the 48-hour policy in section 8. Alongside it, the law (the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013) gives anyone who books online or by phone 14 days from the day they book to change their mind, without giving a reason. We can't remove that right, so here is how the two fit together.
9.2 In practice: if you cancel within 14 days of booking and before any work has started, there is nothing to pay, even if your slot is less than 48 hours away. Once 14 days have passed since you booked, the 48-hour policy in section 8 applies.
9.3 To cancel, tell us clearly by phone, message or email (details in section 1). You can use the model form below but don't have to.
9.4 Work starting within the 14 days. When you book, you ask us to carry out the work on your booked date, even if that falls within the 14 days. If you then cancel after we've started but before the job is finished, you'll pay a fair amount for the work done up to the point you told us you were cancelling. Once the work has been fully completed, the right to cancel ends.
9.5 If you cancel under this section, we'll refund any money you've paid (apart from the proportionate amount in 9.4) within 14 days.
To: Book a Job, info@bookajob.uk (or by post to the address in section 1)
I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the supply of the following service: ______
Booked on: ______ · Booking reference: ______
Name: ______ · Address: ______
Signature (only if sent on paper): ______ · Date: ______
10. If we need to cancel
10.1 Sometimes we may need to move or cancel a booking, for example because of illness, bad weather (for outdoor work), van trouble, or a previous job running over for safety reasons. We'll tell you as soon as possible and offer the next available date. You won't be charged anything for a booking we cancel.
10.2 We're not responsible for indirect costs caused by us rearranging, such as time off work, but we'll always try to give as much notice as we can.
11. What we need from you
- An adult (18+) present to let us in at the start and to agree the total at the end, or another arrangement agreed in advance.
- Safe, clear access to the work area, with fragile and valuable items moved out of the way.
- Somewhere reasonable to park nearby. Paid parking needed for the job may be added at cost if agreed.
- Access to electricity and, where needed, an outside tap.
- Pets and children kept safely away from the work area.
- To tell us about anything we should know: hidden pipes or cables, known hazards, asbestos, fragile surfaces, or restrictions from a landlord, management company or covenant.
We check walls with a detector before drilling, but this can't find everything, so please tell us if you know where pipes or cables run.
12. Your materials, flat-pack and fixings
12.1 Where you supply goods or materials (for example flat-pack furniture, mirrors or plants), they're your responsibility. We're not responsible for faults, damage, missing parts or poor instructions in items we didn't supply.
12.2 If parts are missing or damaged, time spent so far is chargeable and we can return to finish once the parts arrive. The return visit is charged as a new booking.
12.3 Heavy items, tall furniture and wall-mounted items need suitable walls and fixings. We'll advise on the right fixings and will fit anti-tip restraints where supplied. If we think a wall isn't suitable, we'll tell you and may decline to hang the item.
13. Garden waste
13.1 Unless agreed otherwise, garden waste will be bagged or piled neatly on site for your own green bin or disposal.
13.2 We'll only take waste away where we've agreed it in advance and we're legally permitted to carry it. Tip fees and the time taken are charged as agreed.
14. Quality of work and putting things right
14.1 We'll carry out the work with reasonable care and skill, as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires.
14.2 If you're not happy with something we've done, please tell us as soon as possible, ideally before we leave or within 7 days. We'll come back and put it right at no extra cost if it's our fault. If that isn't possible, you may be entitled to some money back.
14.3 Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. Citizens Advice can tell you more.
15. Responsibility for loss or damage
15.1 If we fail to use reasonable care and skill, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of that failure.
15.2 We're not responsible for:
- loss or damage that wasn't foreseeable when the contract was made;
- existing faults or wear in your property, or problems caused by hidden pipes, cables or hazards you didn't tell us about;
- faults in goods or materials you supplied;
- work you asked us to do in a particular way after we advised against it; or
- business losses. Our service is for domestic customers.
15.3 Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
16. Complaints
Please call, message or email us first. We'll acknowledge a complaint within 2 working days and aim to resolve it within 14 days.
17. Your personal information
17.1 We use your name, contact details, address and job details only to manage your booking, carry out the work, take payment and keep the records the law requires.
17.2 We use trusted providers to do this: Stripe (payments), Formspree (booking emails) and Netlify (website and booking diary). We don't sell your information or use it for marketing without your permission.
17.3 We keep booking and payment records for as long as HMRC requires (currently up to 6 years). You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing info@bookajob.uk.
18. General
18.1 If a court finds part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
18.2 If we don't enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.
18.3 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction.
